4/20/16: Interactive Computing Beyond Weiser’s Ubicomp

April 20, 2016

Gregory Abowd, PhD
Regents’ & Distinguished Professor
School of Interactive Computing
Georgia Institute of Technology

About the Webinar:

Mark Weiser’s vision of ubiquitous computing, or ubicomp, was inspiring and influential, but it is becoming a rather old vision. While the grand idea of ubiquitous computing can still inspire lots of research, there are several new technologies that Weiser did not discuss that can and will influence computing research and its application in the coming years.

About Gregory Abowd:

Gregory Abowd, Ph.D., is a Regents’ and Distinguished Professor in the School of Interactive Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Abowd leads a research group interested in human-centered applications of mobile and ubiquitous computing technologies, with an emphasis on home and health. He established the Aware Home Research Initiative at Georgia Tech in the late 1990s and has also researched applications of technology in the classroom. He is an elected member of the ACM SIGCHI Academy and is an ACM Fellow. In 2009, he was awarded the ACM Eugene Lawler Humanitarian Award for his research efforts. He also is a investigator for the MD2K Center, where he is part of the team researching Mobile Sensor Data-to-Information. More about Gregory Abowd.
